Civil Society Organizations in the Country are calling for the resignation of National Land Commission Commissioners over what they term as questionable deals.

The society alleges that the officials are involved in fraudulent dealings and abuse of public office in regard to the compensation of SGR land.

Led by Kenya Land Alliance CEO Lumumba Ondenda the organizations called on the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and Director of Criminal Investigations to carry out thorough investigations on the commissioners and other senior NLC officials.

The organizations which include Kenya Human Rights Commission, Pamoja Trust, Kenya Land Alliance and Haki Jamiib want the commissioners out on grounds of incompetence and gross misconduct.

The Non-governmental organizations singled out renewal of land leases in Nairobi and Mombasa counties as examples of processes mired in controversy.

Ondenda urged the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and Director of Public Prosecutions to carry out a lifestyle audit on the commissioners and other senior NLC officials.

Last month, NLC Chairman Muhammad Swazuri and Kenya Railways Corporation Managing Director Atanas Maina were among seven people arrested over questionable compensation of land owners in the first phase construction of the Standard Gauge Railway.
