The Communications Authority of Kenya has warned of a new malware known as “Emotet” targeting network systems in the country.
The warning came through the CA’s National Computer Incident Response Team Coordination Centre (National KE-CIRT/CC), saying that so far 11 cases of the malware targeting local institutions have been detected.
Emotet is a sophisticated and destructive banking Trojan that affects network systems and it has modular architecture, persistence techniques and worm-like features that can quickly spread infection across the network.
The malware distributes through email attachments or links that pose as payment notifications, bank account alerts or invoices and use branding that appears to come from legitimate institutions.
