A 78-year-old man who had just been paid Sh50,000 coffee farming proceeds and government stipends for the elderly was found dead in his compound in Nandi County.
Kibii Chumo had reportedly received his bonus from coffee.
It is suspected the funds motivated a criminal gang to attack him at his home in Mogoiywa village in Aldai sub-County.

Area assistant chief Timothy Maiyo said the old man had been living alone.
A sombre mood engulfed the village as residents expressed their shock on discovering that the harmless and hardworking elderly man had lost his life to heartless criminals.

“Three days ago, the deceased had gone to Kapsabet town to collect money the government has just paid senior citizens. Coincidentally, he had also earned coffee bonus amounting to over Sh50,000,” said Mr Maiyo.
Aldai OCPD David Nyaputo said Chumo succumbed to stab injuries from a sharp object on his head, legs and hands.

He said the motive of the killing was yet to be established.
