It has now emerged Deputy President William Ruto called Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti to report that his life was in danger, prompting the DCI to immediately launch investigation into the grave allegations.

At least four Cabinet secretaries were accused of being part of the alleged elaborate plot to kill the DP who was yet to make a formal complaint against the senior government officials.

Kinoti who spoke to Citizen TV on Monday, June 24, night, a few hours after summoning CSs Peter Munya (Trade), Joseph Mucheru (ICT), Sicily Kariuki (Health) and James Macharia (Transport), disclosed Ruto reported that someone was after his life, presumably because of his 2022 presidential ambition.

The four CSs were summed to the DCI headquartered on Mondayto record statements but only three of them, Munya, Mucheru and Kariuki honoured the summon.

They, however, declined to record any statement and insisted a written formal complaint be filed first terming the allegations as wild and baseless claims.

“It is a serious allegation, especially coming from the deputy president who is occupying a powerful office in this land. I would expect somebody in that office to do proper investigation before making unsubstantiated and wild allegations of that nature.

I think it is irresponsible, unfair and it intended to portray us in a very bad light, so that we look like criminals. It is also intended to injure our reputation,” Munya said while addressing the press outside the DCI offices on Monday.

The Trade CS confirmed there was indeed a meeting at the Hotel La Mada on Thika Road and he and other CSs were present, but he rubbished claims that the meeting’s agenda was how to kill Ruto and stop him from becoming president in 2022 was was being alleged.

At the centre of the assassination saga is a letter that had emerged on social media and which suggested there was a group of CSs and senior principal secretaries from Mt Kenya region who wanted the DP dead and buried before 2022.

According to the letter which TUKO.co.ke could not independently verify its authenticity, the meeting’s main agenda was to “go on the offensive against the DP”.
