Doha 2019: Kenya shines again as Hellen Obiri bags gold in impressive 5000 metres ▷ Kenya News

Kenya’s own Hellen Obiri and her compatriot Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi have done wonders at the World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar.

Obiri not only bagged another gold for Kenya and retained her title in the women’s 5000 metres final but she also set a new world record.

The world defending champion crossed the line at a record 14:26.7 on Saturday, October 5, followed by her compatriot Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi who gave Kenya silver with 14:27.4.

Bronze went to Konstanze Klosterhalfen of Germany who came third with 14.28.43 in the women 5000 metres final at the 2019 IAAF Athletics World Championships at the Khalifa International stadium in Doha, Qatar.

The 29-year-old Obiri started the race with the fastest time of the season and ran the first kilometre well under three minutes.

She stayed ahead of the pack with Germany’s Klosterhalfen just behind but pulled away in the final lap, securing her crown in style.
