Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua yesterday called on the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) to work closely with all elected leaders in implementing development programs.

The DP said the Kenya Kwanza administration led by President William Ruto is ready to work with all stakeholders to ensure the pledges made to Kenyans during campaigns are fullfiled.

He asked NGAO including the regional and county commisioners, sub-county commisioners as well as chiefs to work closely with the elected leaders across the political divide, both those in Kenya Kwanza Alliance and Azimio.

“President William Ruto is determined to revive the economy and streamline government operations. Civil Servants including the regional and county commissioners together with the police had been dragged into politics. But now they must stay off politics and work with all elected leaders including those in the opposition. We have told them to leave politics to us, it is not their job to do politics,” said Gachagua.

Speaking after a church service at St Peters Catholic Church in Maralal town, Samburu County, the DP also asked Opposition MPs to support the government’s development initiatives as he defended the proposal for creation of the Office of Opposition leader.

He was accompanied by a host of leaders including Samburu Governor Jonathan Leleliit, Samburu Woman Representative Pauline Lenguris and Samburu North MP Dominic Eli Letipila together with members of the county assembly.

The leaders lauded the government for the ongoing mass recruitment of teachers and deployment of police reservists in Samburu county to boost security and curb banditry attacks and cattle rustling.

They also appreciated government’s efforts in mitigating drought by supplying relief food to residents affected by the drought occasioned by prolonged lack of rains.

Gachagua promised that the government will supply more relief food in the area such as 1,000 bags of maize and 1,000 bags of beans.

He asked Samburu residents to support government initiatives including restoration of security in the region.

Stating that cattle rustling is an outdated culture, the DP urged the youth to shun the vice and instead engage in more productive activities such as taking advantage of the Hustler Fund to start entrepreneurship.

He said police will not spare armed criminals including cattle rustlers.

The leaders asked the residents to take advantage of the Hustler Fund by borrowing money to start small scale enterprises.

Terming the Fund as a game changer in the country’s economy, the leaders said the Fund marked the start of President Ruto’s implementation of the bottom-up transformational agenda.

The leaders also castigated their opposition politicians opposed to the Hustler Fund and for asking borrowers not to repay loans.

They also lauded DP Gachagua’s efforts of unifying Mt Kenya leaders across the political divide.

Ruku asked the residents to vote for President Ruto’s bid in 2027, should he seek reelection.

Other leaders present included MPs Bernard Nebart Muriuki (Mbeere south), Geoffrey Ruku (Mbeere North), Florence Jematiah (Baringo Woman representative) and Wachira Karani (Laikipia West).
