Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua today morning jetted back into the country after a two days Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific (OACPS) 10th Summit held in Luanda, Angola.
OACPS represents 79 countries from Africa, Asia, Europe, South America among others.
It’s the tenth heads of state summit that the OACPS has held and the first of three that Angola will hold as the rotating presidency.
The theme for this year’s meeting is titled “Three Continents, Three Oceans, a Common Destiny: Building a Resilient and Sustainable OACPS.”
Angola decided that it should focus on the pressing issues of climate change and good governance, including combatting corruption.
For the Maldives climate change is a threat to its very existence.
On the sidelines, the DP took part in various bilateral and multilateral meetings where commitments were made towards improving the socio-economic lives of the people.
He was seen off by dignitaries, including Kenya’s Ambassador to Angola and his Deputy Clement Kiteme and Andrew Mujivane respectively, Kenya’s envoy to Belgium Bitange Ndemo, Angola’s Director of State Protocol Paulo Laureano, Director of Africa, Middle East and Regional Organisations Miguel Bembe, among others.
