Deputy President William Ruto has seemingly taken a jibe at Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju over his perceived newfound political dalliance with the opposition.
Tuju has been a longtime foe of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga but the two have been seen to have reconnected since the handshake deal between Mr. Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta.
According to reports, the Jubilee SG has also seemingly taken a central role in the development activities of the larger Nyanza region as well as in a circle of political leaders said to be crafting a strategy for the succession of President Kenyatta.
Taking to Twitter on Sunday, DP Ruto however seemed unimpressed by Tuju’s alleged association with the opposition.
“So our democracy is so liberal that the SG of the ruling party has become the chief strategist of the opposition!! Maajabu,” he wrote.

The post comes on the backdrop of a recent trip by Tuju to Rarieda in the company of various ODM leaders among them Siaya Senator James Orengo and area Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo.
Tuju, while addressing the crowd at Mahaya Training Teachers College, criticized a section of political leaders allied to DP Ruto for opposing the handshake “which has brought the much-loved peace we enjoy today.”
“The President is the symbol of national unity. He is not the President for only Kalenjins or Kikuyu or Luhyas… He is the father of the Nation. He cannot serve in exclusion of other regions as some people want,” he was quoted by the Standard.
His sentiments were echoed by Orengo who assured him of the opposition party’s support in his mandate as Jubilee SG in the wake of calls for his resignation.
“As the Jubilee Secretary-General, don’t be shaken or distracted. We are with you and the president in the push for a new democratic wave or transition to a government of national unity,” said the Senate Minority Leader.
Tuju has been on the receiving end of criticism from the DP Ruto-allied ‘Tanga Tanga’ group following the leakage of an audio recording of a call between himself and Kiambu politician George Nyanja.
