Kabras Sugar head coach Henley Du Plessis is optimistic his charges will lift this season’s Kenya Cup title after a strong start to the 2019/20 season.
The Western-based side are unbeaten in their first seven matches and currently tops Kenya Cup standings with 34 points, four points ahead of second-placed KCB.
In an exclusive interview with Citizen Digital, the South African tactician believes their win against defending Champions KCB in match week six is a massive boost to his side title charge.
“It’s our plan to win the Kenya Cup title, we did relatively well in match round six against KCB and I think the fight is not over yet, KCB will come back and I think we’re still far from where we want to be.
“Hopefully this year we might win the cup since we have the recipe of getting a win over the defending champions and I think the boys now have a believe that KCB is beatable,” he added.
Du Plessis revealed that he has a stable squad depth despite missing the services of Dan Sikuta who is currently out for the national team at the HSBC World Series and injured skipper Max Adaka.
“We only missed Sikuta who is playing for Shujaa and injured skipper Max Adaka but the two never played in the last two matches, so it’s good for us to give some players a rest and see what we have in the coming days,” he stated.
Kabras will face Homeboyz this weekend at the Railways Club ground, Nairobi and the former Currie Cup side Boland Cavaliers forwards coach says he expects a tough encounter.
“It will be a tough game, Homeboyz have really improved, but we’ll do the same business that we’ve done for the last seven games trying to press them hard and unsettle them in certain areas.
“For us is just to go back to the drawing board, work on our shortcomings and then take on Homeboyz this weekend,” he added.
