Elderly persons living with HIV aids in Kibra now want the government to distribute to them food stuffs to cushion them from the current high cost of living.
Perpetua Onyango, a 70 year old woman living with HIV Aids says that they are currently torn between buying food and seeking treatment for ailments that occur because of their condition.
Onyango who has been living with HIV for 35 years now says that the Ksh. 2,000 Inua Jamii money being given to them is not enough.
“I am positive, and I should be eating a balanced diet. The Problem is, I cannot afford it because I don’t have a source of income. My husband died long ago and left me with this illness,” says Onyango.
“Life has become tough for us elderly people living with HIV Aids. I live with my grandchildren and they also don’t have enough to eat. It is tough for us,” she said.

Tom Oketch the Director of Lavi Foundation, a foundation established to help the elderly says that it has become harder to provide a balanced diet for these persons.
Oketch says that some of them have been disowned by their families and some even have grandchildren to take care of.
“Very few people are getting the Ksh. 2,000 Inua Jamii money. They are really suffering, they need a lot of financial and social support,” says Oketch.
The Lavi Foundation was established in 2003 to help people living with HIV.
