More than 81 youths have been left high and dry after parting with 27000 shillings each to secure employment with ‘United Nations Mission in South Sudan’.
Police have launched investigations into the incident where fraudsters claiming to be United Nation (UN) officials, working togethers with government officials collected millions from desperate youths
The fraudsters working together with government officials conducted a recruitment exercise at various Chiefs’ offices within Trans Nzoia County where more than 83 youths were selected in a rigorous interview process to ‘work with the UN’.
The youths were then asked to pay Ksh 27000 shillings each for a comprehensive training before joining the ‘United Nations Mission in South Sudan’.

Eager to escape from the harsh life of unemployment and land a job with the UN, 83 youths raised the amount by taking loans, selling property and sinking their savings, believing that this was the opportunity of a lifetime.
Hat the fraudsters were working with government officials and from government premises gave the youth hope with none suspecting any foul play.
The fraudsters even went ahead and booked a local hotel for the training which was to cover basic training, theory and practical on humanitarian work and self defense skills.
The successful candidates were told that the training would be held between 6-11 June with UN military police verifying the documents and a man identified as Thomas Ofule posing as a UN staff approached Sky nest hotel to book the facility for the training.
After collecting more than 2 million shillings, the masqueraders disappeared into the thin air dashing the hopes of several youths.
Sam Ojwang confirmed the incident, stating that investigations have been launched.
He also said that action will be taken against government officials who aided the fraudsters in the scheme.
