Somali journalist Hodan Nalayeh who is also founder of Integrity TV has been killed in Kismayu hotel attack together with her husband.
The 43-year-old journalist who had lived in Canada for many years had traveled to Somalia with her family when the attack happened on Friday, July 12.

A pregnant Naleyah was killed alongside her husband Farid Jama.
The mother of two was well known for the promotion of Somali culture among Canadians and her resilience for positive change in his home country were tremendous.
“Through her work as a journalist, she highlighted the community’s positive stories and contributions in Canada and became a voice for many,” Somali Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Ahmed Hussein told CBC news.
“Her work, particularly in helping women and youth, strengthened the ties between Canada’s Somali community and Somalia as it continues to go through stabilisation and reconstruction. We mourn her loss deeply, and all others killed in the Kismayo attack,” he added.
Her family and friends from across the world, especially Canada and Somalia, mourned Naleyah as a woman whose outstanding efforts in her career are to be emulated by many.
