- Fans calls out Government to help Gor Mahia and other local clubs financially ahead of AFCON 2027
- Local clubs are struggling financially and can not meet their financial obligations
The Gor Mahia fans have called on he government to move with speed and help local clubs address their financial challenges a move they say will speed up in equipping locals players ahead of African cup of Nations 2027.
According to the fans other countries have embraced football as economical venture and a tourism hub that should be natured giving examples of Saudia government that has invested in the football game buying top soccer players world-wide.
“It reaches appoint where we must come out and help a situation…the issue of Gor Mahia ,AFC has been discussed at all levels without actions we want President William Ruto to ensure our top clubs stays afloat in terms of finances thus helping the teams prepare players well ahead of African Cup of Nations.” Chris Onyango ardent Gor mahia fan told Ghetto Radio Sports.
“This is a matter of great concern and should address promptly our own fan base is becoming weak let’s something be done. To our political leaders please giving Gor Mahia and AFC handout when they win derbies wouldn’t help the clubs lets invest in them.” he added.
Sport Ministry Actions
While helping Gor Mahia to pay a fine to avoid Fifa Sanctions Sports Cabinet Secretary Abubu Namwamba slammed the club officials for not taking the club in the correct direction.
“This especial parachute fund of Ksh5 million each will go to Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards to settle their debts but we will not give you this money, we will send it to FIFA directly,” he said.
Gor were kicked out of the CAF Champions League after their club licence was revoked due to their inability to pay money owned to former players Adama Keita, Jules Ulimwengu and Sando Yangayay on time while Leopards was under a transfer ban because of over Ksh20 million owed to ex-coach Patrick Aussems.
