Residents of Kibera have raised concern over the high rate at which male youths die in crime in the area.
The residents claim that Kibra streets are currently full of funeral contribution meetings for the said youths.
This week alone, there were five funeral meetings of youths killed in crime in Makina, Kichinjio, Magorofani, Gatwekera and 42 areas.
“I am Mark Otieno, a resident of Magorofani, my concern is that majority of people who are dying here in Kibera and Langata are are youths,” Otieno stated.
“As we speak now this area has over five centers where people are collecting money to facilitate the burial of youths killed in crime who majority are under 25,” he added.
According to Otieno, most of the youths are pressured to enter crime because of peer pressure to please girls.
“Our boys in the area are good but at the moment he gets a girl now his good character changes. The girl will put him under pressure of getting money to please her and after that a poor boy will venture into theft and when found the mob kills him,” said Otieno.
Mark has also blamed parents for defending their children who are in crime instead of helping them change.
“Majority of parents here will defend their children claiming that they are too young to steal. Yesterday two high school students in school uniform escaped death when they were trying to Robb from a woman,” said Mark.
Mark applied to youth to remain in good manners since it’s their parents who suffer after they have been killed.
“That lady you are struggling to impress won’t feel any pain when you die. He will continue living it is your parent who will miss you and even live in depression. Stop impressing girls. They are never satisfied with money, if they found any other expensive man they will leave you,” he concluded.
