Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Nick Mwendwa says they are incapable of raising the Sh108m they were ordered to pay former Harambee Stars coach Adel Amrouche for wrongful dismissal.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) made the ruling in favour of Amrouce who was sacked in 2014 by the then FKF boss Sam Nyamweya following Kenya’s disappointing Africa Cup of Nations qualifying defeat to Lesotho.
The Belgian was initially awarded Sh60m by world governing body FIFA but proceeded to CAS asking for more money. The 51-year-old won that case on Thursday.
“We have no otherwise other than engage the government in coming up with means and ways of paying the debt because we cannot bare the consequences.
“We tried for a period of four years complaing via the courts to bring down the cost but we have not been successful. This is part of the debt we inherited from our predecessors. And I hope fifa will give us more time because it’s not our fault,” Mwendwa said.
In 2013 Amrouche helped Harambee Stars to win the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup after a drought of eleven years by beating Sudan 2-0, all goals being scored by the then captain Allan Wanga.
Amrouche has won many titles with different teams in the past and he helped Kenya to triumph with limited resources and minimal time for preparation, stars coming on top of a 12 team competition.
It came a time when Kenya was celebrating it’s 50th anniversary of independence with hundreds of dignitaries and foreign heads of states attending the celebrations at Nyayo Stadium, and Harambee Stars did not disappoint against the antagonist Sudan.
