The family of retired President Daniel Arap Moi says he is alive and currently receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital.
Moi family’s spokesperson, Lee Njiru termed speculations about the former president’s health as “hogwash.”
“Any information regarding the former President should be treated as hogwash unless sanctioned by the official channel,” Njiru said.
There were rumors circulating on social media on Thursday that Moi had passed away with Njiru describing those behind the claims as alarmists.
“If what people are talking about happens who can hide such a thing? Those are alarmists and malicious people peddling false rumors. Where do they get such rubbish? Who appointed them to be the family spokesmen?” he posed.
He added: “There are government channels to release such information and they should stop peddling lies and rumors about the health status of Mzee Moi. Who wants to hide anything about Mzee Moi? And in any case, when it comes to information about Mzee Moi, who is speaking the truth, is it me or them?’
“I am the official Press secretary of former President Daniel Arap Moi and I am the spokesperson. Unless you hear from me everything else is hogwash,” said Njiru.
Moi was reportedly admitted to Nairobi Hospital over the weekend after he developed breathing complications, according to Daily Nation.
This is the second time within this month that the 95-year-old has been taken to the hospital. He had been admitted on October 13th for what Njiru described as a routine medical checkup.
