Fortnite at 90 fps now playable only on OnePlus smartphones

Want to enjoy Fortnite at a higher refresh rate on mobile just like you would on a desktop computer?

You’ll need a OnePlus smartphone for that.

Now, obviously, this appeals to a handful of those in the country that have been able to lay their hands on OnePlus devices given the brand’s unavailability locally, at least on an official basis.

According to OnePlus, users of its smartphones, specifically those in the OnePlus 8 series, are the first in the world to be able to play the popular battle royale title at the high refresh rate of 90 hertz.

“This partnership, rooted in technological innovation, was driven by both Epic Games and OnePlus’ desire to take Fortnite to a higher level on Android. Together, we have created the best Fortnite experience ever on a smartphone. The OnePlus 8 Series delivers a smooth, high frame rate gameplay experience – that even current-generation game consoles can’t match,” the company gloats in a statement posted on its forums and sent to the media announcing the development.

While users of OnePlus 8 series devices – OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro – are popping their champagne bottles, the same can’t be said of those who are using the company’s 2019 smartphones in the 7 series. According to OnePlus, they will have to make do with 60 frames per second, the cap for all devices before today’s announcement. Why this is the case despite all of the devices in the OnePlus 7 series, except the standard OnePlus 7 variant, rocking 90Hz displays is unexplained. Neither has Epic Games shared when we can expect other devices to get the same feature seeing as it is that there is no shortage of smartphones with 90Hz displays these days.

With this development, Fortnite becomes the first and only battle royale game to allow users to play at a refresh rate higher than the 60Hz it has previously been capped at (and which, for everyone without a OnePlus 8 series device it remains capped at) and which competitors Call of Duty: Mobile and PUBG still lock gamers at.
