Four legislators acquitted over 2016 incitement charges – KBC

Four members of parliament have been exonerated over incitement charges leveled against them in 2016 after the court ruled that the charge sheet presented by the prosecution was defective.

Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku exonerated the legislators who included Junet Mohammed, Kilifi women representative Aisha Jumwa, Florence Mutua her Busia counterpart and Timothy Bosire and ordered a refund of their cash bails.

The four who were detained at Pangani police station in 2016 over alleged hate speech remarks have been acquitted.

In exonerating the four politicians, the court ruled that their charge sheet was defective and not clear and could not warrant the court to hold them accountable.

Prior to the 2017 general election, the politicians were arrested and spent four nights in detention over alleged incitement.

In Garissa, a senior Administrator has been arraigned in court and charged with abuse of office and stealing relief food meant for vulnerable families in the border town of Hulugho.

Looro Achumi, the Sangailu Assistant County commissioner Alongside Ibrahim Ali Hilow were charged for stealing 400 bags of maize valued at 192,000 shillings.

They denied the charges and were released on a 500,000 shillings bond with a surety of similar amount or a cash bail of 300,000 shillings. The case will be heard on 1st October this year.

Finally, a Murang’a court has deferred a much awaited judgment  over a land dispute between a prominent family in the region and a cooperative society.

Members of the Gatundu based New Ng’enda Cooperative society flocked the court eagerly waiting for case verdict only to be informed that the judgment was not ready and will be delivered on 30th September.

In the case, the cooperative society which was established in 1972 is claiming ownership of 966 acres of land located in Makuyu area of Murang’a County in which a family is claiming to be the owner of the 250 acres of the land.
