Chelsea confirmed the appointment of the former Derby boss on Thursday, July 4, with the club distinguishing the former England international as “one of the greatest players in our history.”
Lampard guided the Championship outfit to the play-off finals, where they lost to Aston Villa, in his debut in football management.
The former England international is a famous figure at Stamford Bridge, having made over 600 appearances for the Blues, winning 11 major trophies with them.
He takes charge at Chelsea at a time the club is grappling with a two-window transfer ban slapped by world governing body FIFA.

“I am here to work hard, bring further success to the club and I cannot wait to get started,” he added.
The englishman will be joined by Jody Morris and first-team coach Chris Jones who will form his backroom staff.
