Garissa governor Ali Korane(Pictured Above) is at war with his Tana River counterpart Dhado Godhana.
Korane claims Godhana has been inciting communities living between borders of the two counties by proposing development projects on Garissa side thus trespassing.
While at Nanighi, Fafi sub-county, Korane said that his administration will push for abolition of what he termed as colonial era three miles rule that pushed the Tana River county boundary three miles inside Garissa county.
“We will push through legal means that will recognise the Tana River as the boundary between Garissa and Tana River counties,” Korane averred.
He further warned Dhado to suspend all proposed projects on the Garissa side.
According to sources, governor Dhado’s administration has approved several projects among them early childhood development education and health centres in Fafi and Balambala.
Governor Dhado is said to have appointed a ward administrator for units, which Korane is claiming is on Garissa side.
Korane said he will first initiate talks with Dhado in a bid to ensure that peaceful co-existence between communities living in now disputed border area prevail.
“Even the international standards recognise major rivers as boundaries between communities and nations. What is unique with ours?” Korane noted.
During the visit by the Building Bridges Initiative, Korane told the committee that they want ‘three miles’ abolished if it exists in the Kenyan statutes.
