A Nairobi-based businessman is the newest millionaire in town courtesy of giant betting firm SportPesa.

Stephen Ojwang who hails from Siaya county won Sh23 million in the SportPesa midweek Jackpot.

He told Nairobi News he’d never dreamt of having such an amount of money in his lifetime.

To achieve that feat, Ojwang, an ardent Gor Mahia fan analyzed all 13 matches and correctly predicted the outcome of each of them.

The decision to increase the number of bets he has been placing played a big role in his success.

“I used to place one or two bets to try and win the jackpot and then I increased to placing between five and seven to improve my chances of winning the jackpot. I am happy it has paid off,” said an elated Ojwang’ who revealed that his analysis of games in the topflight league has improved tremendously.

The youthful businessman has promised to contribute part of the money to the church to help fund some projects.

“My first spend will be to my church where I will contribute some of the money because you cannot win this without the hand of God,” he added.

Ojwang’s win comes barely a week after Nicholas Kiplangat, a police officer based in Kayole, a Nairobi suburb, bagged Ksh 11,143,139 after missing one match in last week’s SportPesa Mega Jackpot which could have made him Ksh 291 million richer.

The punter who correctly predicted the outcome of 16 out of 17 games in the SportPesa Mega Jackpot – currently the highest in the regional gaming industry – would have won a total of Ksh291,623,094, had he selected an away win in a Rotherham vs Cardiff City match ,but his choice of a draw outcome denied him a chance to be the 4th individual winner of the country’s record jackpot amount.

The 36-year-old said he is planning to build modest rental houses on his current piece of land with part of the winnings.

Following Ojwang’s win meanwhile, the SportPesa Midweek Jackpot has been reset to the starting amount of Sh10 million and will increase each week until won.

The Mega Jackpot which consists of 17-select matches will kick off on Saturday, April 1 at 5pm featuring fixtures such as Crystal Palace vs Leicester City and AFC Bournemouth vs Fulham FC among others.
