Gor Mahia set to face Petro de Atletico in CAF Confederations Cup tie

Kenyan Premier League defending champions Gor Mahia are expected to leave the country on Tuesday morning for Luanda where they will face hosts Petro de Atletico in their second CAF Confederations Cup group stage match.

The team coached by Hassan Oktay will miss the services of Jacques Tuyisenge and Philemon Otieno who are suspended after  accumulating two successive yellow cards in the CAF organized competition.

Dennis Oliech, who netted the fourth goal in KO’galo’s  4-2 victory over Zamalek last week in Nairobi, but sat out injured on Saturday during the Mashemeji Derby is expected to be fit on Wednesday for the clash against the Angolans.

Defender Wellington Ochieng  has  also been included in the trip despite missing the weekend derby.

A total of 18 players, five technical staff, three club officials and one Federation representative will be travelling  to Angola for the match.

Elsewhere, Confederation of African Football President Ahmad Ahmad  is facing a threat to his reign after being accused of violating the statutes of African football’s ruling body.

Executive Committee  member Musa Bility called for an urgent meeting on Friday.

He wants Ahmad’s decisions to redistribute the 2021, 2023 and 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and sign a commercial deal without Executive committee approval to be assessed.

CAF’s statutes rule that only eight of the 23  executive members need to be present for such a meeting to go ahead.

Should the executive committee find Ahmad guilty of breaching Caf statutes, which state that moving any Nations Cup requires the approval of the executive commitee the former Madagascar FA president could be suspended from his role and, ultimately, expelled.
