Nandi women representative, Dr Tecla Tum is calling on the government to roll out free  cancer screening services to all women and issue human papilloma virus vaccines to boys and girls to reduce deaths caused by cervical cancer.

In her motion before the national assembly, Tum says cervical cancer is the leading type of cancer in the country killing at least 8 to 10 women per day.

According to her women aged between 20-30 years are the most affected by the non communicable disease.

She argues that cervical cancer can be totally eliminated by putting preventative measures through timely treatments.

The motion comes at a time when the country’s consciousness on cancer has been raised following the increase of deaths associated with the disease.

The latest to lose the battle against the disease is Bomet Governor Dr Joyce Laboso who died a few days after the passing on of Kibra member of parliament  Ken Okoth who succumbed to colorectal cancer .
