Governor Barasa rolls up sleeves with fresh Cabinet – Weekly Citizen

Names of chief executive cabinet members unveiled last week by Kakamega Governor Fernandez Barasa continues to get support from residents and leaders from the county describing the list as Solomonic.

The exercise that saw nomination of his deputy Ayub Savula as Trade, Industrialization and Tourism executive has been regarded as full of wisdom from the governor, who doubles as the chairperson of the finance and economic planning committee at the Council of Governors.

His new team is blended with former politicians, business people and professionals.

Barasa and Savula were elected on an Azimio la Umoja ticket, with the former vying on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket and the latter on a Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K).

In assembling his team, Barasa retained some of the officers who worked under his predecessor Wycliffe Oparanya.

He appointed the immediate Agriculture Cabinet Administration Secretary Lawrence Omuhaka as the new Public Service and County Administration executive.

Peninah Mukabane whom Oparanya sacked from the Agriculture docket will now oversee Lands, Housing, Urban areas and Physical Planning if approved by the county assembly.

Kitale’s St Joseph Boys High School principal Godfrey Owori was nominated to serve as Education Science and Technology executive.

Others nominated are Dr Bernard Wesonga (Health Services), Mophat Mandela (Social Services, Sports, Youth and Gender) and Patrick Wesonga (Roads and Public Works).

High school principal Boniface Okoth who was his campaign manager was nominated for the position of county secretary.

According to the governor, the selection of the nominees was competitive and transparent to ensure suitable individuals are picked to steer the devolved unit.

‘’The team will surely deliver for Kakamega County following the sober appointment of men and women who will push his agenda for the people of Kakamega to the next level’’, pointed out

The priority was given to regional balance and competence, without forgetting the cosmopolitan nature of the County.
