Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata has promised to sort out the delay in payment of salaries for the county staff as a matter of priority.
Kang’ata said it was unfortunate that County workers have not been paid for the last three months something he said shouldn’t happen.
Speaking during his first day in office, the governor promised to look into the welfare of the workers saying he will ensure they get their pay on time.
The governor noted with concern that the cheques issued by the county government to cater to the beneficiaries of the ‘Nyota zetu’ scholarship program bounced and the children have since been sent home due to arrears.
He said he has also ordered for the immediate purchase of drugs which will be stocked in County hospitals pointing out that patients shouldn’t be sent to buy drugs from private outlets.
Kang’ata said the previous government had accrued a huge debt with the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) amounting to Ksh 35 million which saw the latter freeze the county’s account.
He said he has negotiated with the agency to allow the health department purchase the drugs from them as he looks for a way to settle the debt.
The governor said his team will draw a work plan which they will use in delivering services to the people.
