All is not well at the Devolution and Asal ministry of Eugene Wamalwa following revelations that some officers are busy extorting frustrated members who had applied for several positions including the chairmanship of the intergovernmental relations technical committee. The officers mostly those who got positions at the ministry following the influence of the CS are believed to be asking for kickbacks to have those who had applied for the position of chairman and eight members finally land the lucrative positions. The officers are being accused of putting their premium above what they were employed to do, and hence need to be shown the door.

Weekly Citizen can now authoritatively reveal that a staff at the CS’s office has already pocketed some big amount of money from Lenny Kivuti for the purpose of influencing his appointment as chairman of the committee to replace Joshua Wanyoike who has also been shortlisted. The same staff members, one from Trans Nzoia and another one from Bungoma, are fighting tooth and nail to have former Kanduyi MP Alfred Khang’ati land the position of a member to the committee. The argument is that politicians will be required to resign and seek for political office in the 2022 general elections and subject the council of governors and the ministry to start the process of interviewing another team.

“It is totally wrong to bring politicians on board because they are not impartial. The committee charged with involvement to check emerging issues can’t be put into the hands of such people now that we have a year or so to 2022 elections,’’ said a governor from a North Rift county. He asked Wamalwa to stop his money-hungry officers from interfering in the whole process and argued that the repositioning of the cartels to bring on board the two politicians was wrong. “The committee needs to conduct all affairs above board and must enforce a policy of zero tolerance to corruption.

If you pick money from people to give them positions, will they really deliver or they will steal to get back their money? We must all comply with integrity requirements in the public service. Weekly Citizen can authoritatively reveal that the two staff members at the Devolution ministry who moved to the ministry on the political hand of the CS are a thorn in the flesh of those seeking for employment and contracts and one has been minting millions of money in kickbacks from Asian contractors in readiness for campaigns for a parliamentary seat in one of the Webuye constituencies. Efforts to contact the CS Wamalwa were futile throughout.
