The Tanzanian government has sent a stern warning to artist’s popularizing the usage of marijuana in their songs.
This comes barely a few days after Harmonize featured Jamaican dancehall Star Konshens in the song ‘Weed Language’.
Speaking at a press conference in Daressalam ,the Tanzanian head of anti narcotics (DCEA) Gerald Kusaya hinted on an imminent arrest of artist’s with song’s propagating the unlawful drug’s popularity.
He maintained that artist’s are the mirror of the society and should use lyricism in uplifting the masses rather than swaying them the wrong way.
He pointed out that no Tanzanian artist will use lyricism on prohibited drugs to gain popularity and go unscathed. He promised to invite the media soon to cover the punishment on the said artist’s.
Kusaya was at pains with artist’s for failing to use their lyricism in promoting wellness such as agriculture or business.
Though Kusaya didn’t mention names of the said artist’s, many saw Harmonize as the lead culprit. The Konde Gang Boss has of late acquired a signature ‘Weed Cough’ – Kooh, Kooh, Kooh which Introduces his songs.
Tanzanian netizens joined the debate with divergent views.
If the arrest is be effected then many artist’s will be rounded up and not only Harmonize. Rapper Young Lunya, Nay Wa Mitego and Country Wizzy among others have in the past sang lines glorifying the ‘Holy Herb’.
