NTV Swahili presenter Fridah Mwaka says she is inspired to improve her work by the recognition she receives from various stakeholders through the awards she wins.

In an exclusive interview with Nairobi News, Fridah shared that although she almost always never sees the recognition coming, she is grateful for the love and support from her followers and fans especially if the contest demands to vote.

Fridah’s media journey began when she was still on campus pursuing her undergraduate, attributes her recognition to hard work and determination in the industry.

She discloses that the first award she ever received was while she was hosting a show for radio at Daystar University.

As a television anchor, Fridah received her first award in 2022 during the Pwani Golden Awards.

At the event in Mombasa, Fridah received the female journalist of the Year award. “I really thank God for the recognition because truthfully speaking I did not expect it and never made effort to get it. I just received a call that I was being honoured,” she reveals.

Additionally, the other award that she received is the International Ladies in Media Award (Lima) 2022 which was held in Ghana in April 2023.

The competition drew contestants from Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe with Fridah winning the Outstanding Female News Anchor of the Year award.

The voting for the event was closed on February 25, 2023, and the award ceremony took place on March 25, 2023, in Ghana. Coincidentally, Fridah was also one of three hosts for the Awards Gala.

In the Lima Awards, Fridah was contesting against Abena Soreno Yamkyera and Theresa Weyerane Adiali from Ghana, and Ngozi Alaegbu from Nigeria in the Outstanding Female News Anchor of the Year.

Ladies In Media Awards is the first-ever awards ceremony honoring women in the African media space- in front of the camera and behind the scenes.
