Recently, Huawei launched the P30 series of smartphones in Kenya, which fits the bill of a top-tier range gadget. The new series places a huge focus on the cameras – a step up from the P20 series.
They have aroused huge interest among users due to the type of technology packed in these P30 series.
Coming at a time of fierce competition among phone brands, Huawei’s new smartphones stand out in a crowded smartphone market segment.
The world’s biggest telecom gadgets maker has found a way to make the P30 series stand out among its peers.
The new series include the top of the range P30 Pro, the P30 and the P30 Lite which are an updated design compared to the P20 series launched last year.
They all have notched screens and colourful backs that have striking finishes. The main differences are the types of inbuilt cameras, where the P30 Pro features the cream of the crop set with the new periscope telephoto camera.
The P30 gets the same set as the Mate 20 and the low-budget P30 lite gets a midrange triple camera system at the back. The focus of this review will be on P30 lite. I received the vibrant Peacock Blue colour for review with the signature Huawei gradient finish that looks great.
My first impression after spending time with it is that the P30 Lite, though with some limitation, will certainly change users’ expectations of smartphone photography and the clarity of picture, both still and motion images. Compared with the P30 and the P30 Pro, the P30 Lite is aimed at an audience looking to spend less, but still, have the flagship-level experience they deserve.
The P30 Lite looks similar to most Huawei phones launched recently and has a slim and light profile.
It’s got a curved 3D glass on the back that makes it easy to handle. There’s a fingerprint sensor on the rear and a protruding camera bump that houses the phone’s three sensors. Its hardware is where the P30 Lite shows its true budget nature. It sports Huawei’s mid-range Kirin 710 chipset found in phones like the Honor 10 Lite and Honor 8x. On the upshot, the P30 Lite runs Android 9 out of the box with Huawei’s cleaned up EMUI 9 skin.
It includes Lots of features that make life easier, such as gesture support, performance and battery optimisation and a neater settings menu you can access these easily. Watching videos and viewing content on the P30 Lite screen has been a good experience so far.
The display is stunning for a budget phone with ample brightness. But it’s far from being just a charmer, this series is powered by Huawei’s innovative technologies including a triple-camera system. The Huawei P30 Lite delivers a compelling user experience as well.
Its Artificial Intelligence also plays a role in the rear camera system to tactfully manipulate light and shadows to produce gorgeous masterpieces. The front camera lets even amateur photographers capture frame-worthy, poster-quality selfies.
The P30 Lite sheds a lot of what makes its higher-end siblings stand out but manages to deliver a premium design. With its classy looks and added features, Huawei has managed to offer another budget smartphone that has all the hallmark of a stylish upmarket gadget.
Overall, the P30 Lite seems like a worthy addition to Huawei’s already crowded budget line up, and brings an interesting mix of specs and hardware into the mix, especially for those who are cash strapped.
