Chinese device maker Huawei will soon unveil yet another budget smartphone, the Huawei Y6s, in the country soon.
How soon? Early next month.
Starting on Monday (February 24th), Huawei will be opening pre-orders for the device which was announced last month. The pre-order period is expected to last until March 3rd, after which the device will be made available across the country.
Just as it has done with other Y series devices before, Huawei has been carrying out a price guess competition on social media platforms over the last few days.
The Huawei Y6s features a 6-inch display, a 13-megapixel camera and a 3,020mAh battery.
Huawei is quick to emphasis that the device is powered by “Google’s Android” which is to mean that users can expect the same Google Mobile Services that they are used to on past Huawei devices as well as devices from other makers.
The Huawei Y6’s unveiling locally comes just after Huawei launched the Nova 5T, a pricey mid-range (by Huawei standards) smartphone targeted at those that want a premium device but can’t get to the pricing of Huawei’s P series flagship devices (well, except the Lite variants).
It becomes the second Y series smartphone from Huawei to be made available in the country coming after the Huawei Y9s back in November last year.
According to Huawei Mobile Kenya, the Huawei Y6s will cost Kshs 14,000 when it starts selling.
