Huawei’s latest Y-series smartphone, the Y7p, is now available for purchase in the country.

The device, announced globally back in February, brings to the market a couple of upgrades to the expectations that we have of budget devices in the sub-Kshs 20,000 category where it falls.

It has a triple camera setup headlined by a 48-megapixel sensor at the back and marks the Chinese brand’s ditching of the “traditional” notch approach by taking on a punch hole on the display to accommodate the front-facing camera.

The change, which allows it to have a 90% screen-to-body ratio, goes a long way in enabling the beautiful design it touts as one of its key features.

The Huawei Y7p arrives running the dated Android 9 Pie which users will be interacting with through the EMUI 9.1 overlay it runs on. Additionally, the device relies on Huawei Mobile Services and not Google’s which means that users get Huawei’s alternative apps and services pre-installed including AppGallery, Huawei’s app marketplace.

The Huawei Y7p is available for purchase online on Jumia and in select physical retail outlets across the country.

The device is going for Kshs 18,500.
