Lang’ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o has taken us down memory lane as he marks his 40th birthday today.

The comedian turned politician shared one of the memories of his journey which he says he will never forget, on Ghetto Radio’s morning show segment dubbed ‘Once Upon a Time.’

Jalang’o also known as Heavy J Baba recalls how he started his life in the city after being ushered out of home with only two shirts and trousers by his dad who set him free to go and begin his life as a man.

“Once upon a time mzae alinipiganga longi mbili na shati mbili akaniambia manze toka uende ukue mwanaume, nikiwa Homa Bay. Hapo ndio maisha ya mtaani ilianzia, kupiga mashughuli hapo tao.”

According to the politician the greatest gift to him as he is turning a year older is seeing how far he has come and how his life has turned for the best, currently having the mandate to represent the people of Lang’ata, which is the largest constituency in Nairobi.

“Hakuna wera sijawai piga. Mi huona vijanaa saa zingine wakiniambia wanapitia noma, hizo noma zote nimepitia. Saa hizi God amenifungulia njia mi ni mhesh manze. Kutoka huko kwa kuvua na kuuza samaki Homa Bay mpaka sai kurepresent the biggest constituency in Nairobi. Hio ndio sasa mi huangalia nyuma hivi naambia God manze asante sana.” He says.

About Joining Maandamano and Raila Odinga active political wing

Jalas acknowledges  people’s right to protest and considers participating for a minute but is afraid when he recalls what happened to him in Machakos last meeting.

“Mayouth walinitoa juujuu hadi naogopa kutokea maandamano bila mpangao, lakini Baba akinicall nitaitika”

However he admits that if Baba calls him he will take the chance.

He then pledges his loyalty to his party ODM confirming that he is still a member despite the troubles experienced in the past few weeks.

“Baba ni baba siku zote na napenda vile wameanza kuongea hizo bipartisan talks na najua vitu zitakuwa fitina nchi itasonga mbele. Maandamano nayo siwezi enda, sitakuwa kwa msafara. Lakini ni right ya wasee kuenda wafanye tu peacefully.”

He adds, “Sijawai acha chama, ushainiona mahali nimeacha chama? Unless Baba mwenyewe aniambie tokea ntawaona tu kwa mbulu.”
