Yesterday, Kiss FM’s sports radio presenter, Caroll Radul shared a heartbreaking story on the troubles Kenya’s National Women’s Netball Team is facing in Cape Town.

They left Kenya last Thursday night to participate in the Africa Cup Championship in CapeTown from the 18th to the 23rd of October. The Kenya Government got them air tickets and visas. On arrival at their hotel on Friday morning, they were denied entry because the government had not paid facilitation fees.

According to Radull’s Instagram,

A Kenyan who lives in Cape Town and knew one team member felt sorry for them, bought them bread and milk and took them to a lodge owned by a Cameroonian lady who agreed to house them as “your government settles the bill.” The Cameroonian lady has been feeding them when she can afford to, at her cost but most of the time, the girls sleep hungry. They won one game against Malawi but lost all the others.

According to Game Yetu, they spoke to an official at the Sports ministry who said the 1.4 million was approved and disbursed on Tuesday and received by the hotel the next day.

This is the same hotel that turned them back upon arrival and they said they have not received anything.

Blessings, the manager of the lodge that took them in was called by Kiss FM’s breakfast show, Kamene and Kibe producer, Xtian Dela and the lady said she will not release the girls until they are paid.

we have a team of 16 people and each is to pay 1661 rands a day for 10 days. I will not let the team leave until the bill is settled. I am the manager of the lodge and I will still keep counting for as long as they stay here

The officer Game Yetu spoke to denied reports that the team was stranded, saying there was a Sports officer who had accompanied them. “We would have been told of any difficulties,”

This story really upset Kamene and Kibe. Airing out their grievances even brought out the many other time National Teams have suffered in other countries I the name of representing Kenya.

‘Ungrateful fortunate people’ Andrew Kibe says to frustrated employees

It is sad that this is an ongoing problem in the sports ministry and it makes Kamene mad that CS of sports walks around in a huge gold ring and a Rolex watch while those who give her a job are sleeping hungry in another country.

The two tried to call the PS under the Ministry of Sports and Heritage, Kirimi Kaberia and The Nairobi Senator Sakaja and all are not reachable.
