NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 9 — House Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa has called out former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi over his unproven allegations of a police raid at his Karen home on Wednesday night.

Ichung’wa spoke on Thursday amid mounting calls for Matiangi to produce evidence over the alleged raid even as security agencies denied raiding his home.

“We want to let Kenyans know that this was a poorly scripted drama last night whose architects, scripters and directors only wanted to invoke public emotions and incite Kenyans,” he said.

There were also questions on why no images or surveillance footage had emerged on the said incident.

News crews that rushed to Matiangi’s home equally had no footage or images of alleged deployment of elite police officers.

Ichung’wa said the move by Matiangi was aimed at disrupting a planned meeting of Kisii leaders with President William Ruto.

“This is following the dwindling support of their subversive activities in political rallies around the country especially by the political class,” the Kikuyu lawmaker argued.

Where is the evidence?

He called on opposition leader Raila Odinga who was among politicians who arrived at Matiangi’s home to produce evidence in form of photographs of the purported raid.

Ichung’wa said Matiangi should not to live in fear if his conscious is clear that he did not misuse government agencies when he was at the helm of security docket.

He assured him that the Kenya Kwanza will not replicate last regime’s style saying due diligence will be followed in case he (Matiangi) has a case to answer.

Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie termed the incident as the height of political desperation aimed at destabilizing the country and causing chaos among Kenyans

“The truth of the matter is that there has been an attempt to bring disorder, chaos and civil action from the day the results were announced at the Bomas of Kenya.”

“They tried to bring people to the streets. The Supreme Court ruled and soon after that they even tried to mobilize people to go to the street and that also failed,” Kiarie said.

Kindiki: Matiangi lied

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki dismissed claims security agencies raided the home of his predecessor who openly backed night raids during his tenure.

Kindiki dismissed claims by Matiangi’s lawyers as false in a statement on Thursday.

The Interior CS said no law enforcement agencies had orders to pursue Matiangi dismissing assertions the National Police Service (NPS), the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) may have raided his home.

“This allegation is utterly FALSE,” he asserted.

“No police officer(s) or any security agent from any Government institution or department was dispatched to the home of Dr. Matiangi to arrest, harass or otherwise interfere with his Constitutional rights in any manner whatsoever,” Kindiki said.

He said anyone with information on the incident to come forward and report to the security agencies for action.

“Any person with information relating to the alleged incident at Dr. Matiangi’s home last night is advised to file a formal complaint at the nearest police station for investigations and appropriate action,” Kindiki said.

Matiangi obtained anticipatory bail and to stop the police or any agent from arresting or harassing him and his family.
