Board members of the Association of Physically Disabled Persons in Kenya (APDK) have been blocked from accessing their offices in Westlands by irate workers over alleged mismanagement of funds and arbitrary sacking of key management officials.
The workers staged protests outside the headquarters on Tuesday morning vowing to disrupt operations until their grievances are heard and addressed.
They demand that the current board be dissolved and an interim one formed ahead of a special AGM.
They accused the management of planning frequent meetings in which they award themselves hefty allowances while at the same time delaying workers’ salaries and statutory remittances.
“Last Friday, they sacked the chief accountant without following due process after she refused to approve a Sh4,000 payment to the board’s vice chairman. She is amongst a list of key senior managers that have been sacked for going against the board’s demands. We cannot let this continue,” one of the striking workers told the Nation.
In its defence, the board through its vice chairman Mr Limbo Mnabea said due process was followed in the sacking of the chief accountant.
