From playing for Nowell’s Old Boys , A Rosario-based top division youth football club to winning the Ballon d’Or seven times ,Lionel Andrés Messi popularly known as Leo Messi has proved to be one of the greatest athletes in history.
Born in Rosario ,Argentina on the 24th of June 1987 ,he was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency at the age of 11 and since he came from a poor family, his parents did not have enough to cater for the treatment which was 900 dollars.
Little did he know ,his talent would change the situation in their home . At the age of 13 Messi relocated to Spain to join Barcelona FC for whom he made his competitive debut aged 17 in October 2004. He would go on to play for Barcelona FC for the next 20 years scoring 672 times in 778 games .
What has a beginning must always have an end and this is what he had to say in his farewell speech when leaving Barcelona FC .
“After 21 years , I’m leaving with my wife ,my three little Catalan-Argentine kids . And I can’t tell you everything that we have lived in this city , and I can’t say that in a few years , we won’t come back because this is our home , and I promised my children that.”
2021, Messi joined PSG , playing side by side with his former teammate Neymar Junior and one of the finest youngsters, Kylian Mbappe.

2022 came and so did the long awaited World Cup. This was Messi’s chance to prove his worth and claim the coveted throne by leading his nation to victory, and so he did. Argentina won the 2022 FIFA World Cup, but does this really mean he is the GOAT?
