The main point of contention arose from claims that iPhone Street Kenya has been marketing and selling older, refurbished iPhones as brand new devices.
The controversy reached its top when TikTok user Lordhezion posted a video detailing his disheartening experience with the store.
“A man has raised concerns about IPhone Street Kenya (a company endorsed by multiple Kenyan celebrities) for allegedly refurbishing an iPhone 13 and falsely selling it as brand new, “Edgar Obare posted on X.
In his video, Lordhezion revealed that the iPhone 13 he purchased from iPhone Street Kenya had a problem with its battery.
Upon further investigation, he discovered that his device was originally sold by Apple as a Product Red device, but it had been refurbished and repackaged in a new Starlight body before being sold to him.
As the video gained traction on social media, many consumers across the country who felt they had been deceived by the shop came out sharing their own experiences and frustrations.

However, conspicuously absent from their statement was a clear denial or confirmation regarding the allegations of selling refurbished iPhones as new ones.
