AS Roma has become the first European football club to launch an official Swahili Twitter account.
The new account was created Wednesday and the first tweet was of a cheeky video initially created by American comedians Michael Key and Jordan Peele captioned: “Roma Swahili Admin is here!!!”

The club’s English account has frequently tweeted in Swahili from time to time in the recent past and the reactions from their Swahili-speaking fans have been wild.
A majority of the fans even asked for the Swahili account to be created after a recent tweet congratulating Kenyan marathoner Eliud Kipchoge after he ran a marathon in under two hours in the INEOS 1:59 Challenge in Vienna, Austria.

The requests forced club president Jim Pallotta, responding in Swahili from his own personal account, to confirm that the club would indeed launch an official Roma Swahili account.
Kama mnahitaji ukurasa wa As Roma wa Kiswahili kweli mnastahili kuwa nao.
Unawajia muda si mrefu.
Amani na upendo kwenu nyote.
