Regional carrier Jambojet has started selling flight tickets to Kigali and Mogadishu as it anticipates for the maiden flights in November
The airline seeks to enable more passengers to fly from its hub in Nairobi to the two destinations. The entry into the Kigali route makes Jambojet the only low -cost airline to operate the route from Nairobi.
“Our entry into the two markets is part of our regional expansion programme and brings to three the total number of routes we operate in the continent with the exception of those we fly to on behalf of Kenya Airways,” said Allan Kilavuka, Chief Executive Officer, Jambojet.
Customers can book through all existing distribution channels including the airline’s website, sales offices, call center, and travel agents. The airline will fly once daily to the two destinations.
The one hour Nairobi- Kigali route will begin on Monday November 25th at 1435 and from Kigali at 1615 with a promotional fare of Ksh. 11,240. The Nairobi-Mogadishu route will operate from Sunday, November 24th departing Nairobi at 0600 to arrive at 0845. The fare will start from Ksh. 24,470 one way.
Jambojet currently flies to five local destinations namely Malindi, Ukunda, Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret and one regional destination-Entebbe, Uganda – from its hub in Nairobi.
Recently, Jambojet acquired a brand new De Havilland Dash 8 -Q400 aircraft, a first of four aircrafts that are expected this year, to boost the airline’s capacity as it looks to soar into more regional destinations.
Since inception in 2014, Jambojet, which was recently awarded the coveted IATA Operational Safety Audit certification (IOSA), has flown over 3million passengers, 30 percent of whom are first-time flyers.
The airline was also ranked top airline in Africa with the youngest fleet in a report by global aviation intelligence provider, ch-aviation.
The report showed that Jambojet’s average aircraft age is 4.3 years compared to the continent’s average of 16 years, the oldest globally. It was followed by Royal Air Maroc Express of Morocco and Air Austral in Reunion at 6.03 and 6.05 years respectively.
The newly introduced flights to Mogadishu and Kigali are aimed to expand the airline’s scope.
