President Uhuru Kenyatta, Africa Union Special Envoy Raila Odinga and Nairobi governor Mike Sonko were among the top dignitaries who led friends and families in fundraising for late football legend Joe Kadenge.
The three contributed KSh 1 million each, with Kadenge’s family understood to have billed his burial and funeral arrangement expenses at KSh 5 million.

The fundraiser was hosted at Charter Hall Nairobi on Tuesday evening, July 16, and was geared towards offsetting medical bills and organising for the football icon’s send off.
Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) boss Francis Atwoli and Amani party leader Musalia donated are the other luminaries who contributed the event.
Meanwhile, Kadenge’s remains will be flown to his rural home on Thursday, with a public viewing of the body scheduled for the same day at Bukhungu Stadium.

On Friday AFC Leopards and Vihiga United will face off at Bukhungu Stadium in honour of the departed.
Kadenge, who died on Sunday, July 7, will be laid to rest on Saturday, July 20, in Hamisi, Vihiga County.
Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported Nairobi’s City Stadium could be on its way to being renamed after the late legendary footballer.
Raila revealed plans to rename the facility in honour of Kadenge who was pretty much a forgotten soul in the latter stages of his life.
