Nyali MP Mohamed Ali has accused Mombasa governor Hassan Joho of being famous in showing off instead of delivering services to the port city residents.
Ali said there is no major project done in the port city by the Joho government. He called on residents to fight political conman ship and populist politics in Mombasa.
Addressing his constituents, the legislator further claimed the governor is only active in bringing in famous foreign musicians to entertain residents and abandoning his key responsibilities.
“Name for me one major project that he has done for the people of Mombasa county? I can tell you what Kivutha Kibwana is doing, what Alfred Mutua is doing, what Sonko is doing. But here at home, yes, he has brought Ali Kiba to Maweni. He is a good dancer. He is a showbiz governor,” Ali fumed.
He said he will not bring artists from outside like Chris Brown, Diamond or Ali Kiba to perform in Mombasa and pay them millions of shillings but will help local artists to become successful.
He said Joho has nothing to show for his leadership in Mombasa after being Kisauni MP and the governor for 17 cumulative years.
The MP said it is hypocritical that Joho is thinking of contesting for the presidency yet he had done nothing meaningful to bring change to residents in his current position.
He said he will be seeking re-election for the Nyali seat in 2022 to complete the projects he has started.
The former journalist said his intention is to ensure he delivers at least 60pc of what he pledged to Nyali residents during campaigns.
He said his efforts were derailed for a whole year because of the election petition against his win by his political rival Said Abdalla whom he referred to as a Joho surrogate and whom he said he will defeat again in the next general elections.
But nominated MCA Fatma Kushe defended Joho, saying Ali’s sentiments were in bad taste. She claimed the governor had achieved a lot in terms of development in the port city and told the MP to shut up.
