July update for Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ in Kenya adds AR Emoji, Call and Message Continuity

A couple of weeks after Europe, Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ users in the country can finally download and install the July 2019 update for the pair.

In addition to the expected July security patch, the update also adds AR Emoji and support for Call and Message Continuity to both S9 handsets. This is the same feature that recently rolled out to the country’s variant of the Galaxy Tab S5e.

With Call and Message Continuity, Galaxy S9 and S9+ users will be able to receive calls and respond to messages on, say, a Galaxy Tab S5e tablet as long as both devices have the same Samsung account logged into. However, the feature, which is found under the Connection menu in the Settings app, needs an internet connection in order to work.

The update is arriving as version G960FXXU6CSG8 for the S9 and G965FXXU6CSG8 for the S9+ and is quite heavy, so be sure to get a stable Wi-Fi connection to download it. Since its rolling out over the air (OTA), it will take some time before all S9 and S9+ units in the country get the download notification.

You can either wait for the OTA notification or force the update via Settings > Software update > Download and install manually. If it doesn’t show up on the first attempt, repeat this process until it shows up on your device.
