Jumia’s Black Friday event finally kicked off on Thursday, November 7, at 11:59pm and will run for three weeks up to Friday, November 29.
The online e-commerce shopping mall intends to use November discounts to increase its vendors from 10,000 as of 2018 to 15,000 by the end of 2019.

Over 100,000 customers logged in for midnight launch of the event themed “the biggest save of the year”.
“Customers from all over the country logged on to our site at midnight to join us for the launch of Black Friday 2019. With 100s of orders in the first minutes, from all over the country, it was an exciting moment. The event will run until Friday, November 29, with great deals and daily surprises for everyone” Jumia Kenya CEO Sam Chappatte said.
The event will enable shoppers to enjoy a wide range of products such as appliances, phones, TVs, clothes, and furniture on discounts.
Here are of some of the highlights from go live Black Friday 2019.
1. The first order at go live midnight done within 10 seconds was a 24” TV Hifinit to a female customer in Nyeri who opted for it to be delivered to Transerve pick up station in Nyeri.
2. The first boda boda customers to buy motorbikes from Car and General at KSh 100 were from Kajiado,and Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Nairobi.
3. The company had over 100 orders in the first one minute (of which 33 were televisions) and up to 3000 orders in the 1st hour.
4. The best selling products in day one are Kabras 2kg sugar retailing for KSh 50, followed by 2kg Unga at KSh 72, hand washing powder and television sets.
5. Seventy-five percent of traffic came from Jumia App within the first hour, with the rest split between Mobile Web and Desktop.
To enjoy the deals, customers are advised to download the Jumia app which contributes to 48% of sales as of October 2019 up from 30% in January 2019.
The company’s customers can now have their goods delivered to their doorstep through the nearest Post Office at a lower price than what other courier services charge at the moment after the online store inked a deal with Posta on Thursday, October 24.
