NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 6 – Three-time world half marathon champion Geoffrey Kamworor says he is taking it each day at a time as he continues his resurgence to top form after past struggles with injuries.

The former world half marathon record holder believes it is only a matter of time before he is operating at 100 per cent efficiency, in time for this season’s local and international assignments.

“During the national trials for the World Cross Country, I was not well prepared…I think I was at 60 per cent. Today, I feel like I am operating at 80 per cent and hopefully, to take one step at a time and get to top form in time for the World Cross Country Championships in Australia,” Kamworor said.

He was one of the biggest winners at Friday’s National Police Service Cross Country Championships, held at Ngong Racecourse, as he clocked 29:39.1 to win the men’s race.

Commonwealth Games 10,000m silver medalist Daniel Simiu finished second in 29:46.9 as Josephat Kiprotich timed 30:43.9 in third.

The four-time World Cross Country Champion – two at the senior and two at the junior level – said the competition was the perfect preparation for his campaign in Bathurst, Australia next month.

“I made it into Team Kenya and so today’s competition was a way for me to prepare for the world championships. From now on, it is back to training in preparation for Australia. I don’t think I will be running at the National Championships because my mind is all focused on the World Cross Country,” the two-time New York Marathon champion said.
