Dependable batsman, Rakep Patel, on Sunday blasted a scintillating century as Kanbis A routed Nairobi Gymkhana by five wickets in a Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association Super League match at Eastleigh High School.
Rakep’s 108 runs came off 83 deliveries with 13 boundaries and a six. Rakep was also Kanbis’ highest runs getter.
It was Kanbis’ ninth triumph from as many outings and are now only awaiting to be crowned Super League champions with a game in hand.
Batting first, Gymkhana set a target of 267 with two wickets in hand in their allotted 50 overs. Lucas Oluoch played a captain’s innings scoring a quick unbeaten 46 that came off 24 balls with four towering sixes.
Abdul Najmi (39 off 49 balls with five boundaries and a six), Kavi Desaja (25), Harsh Patel (27), Sidharth Vijaysinh (38) and Veer Dave (24) were the other Gymkhana batsmen who contributed meaningful runs for their team.
Kanbis’ wickets were shared among Nischan Kerai (2/20), Rajesh Bhudia (2/49), Sachin Bhudia ( 1/42), Jayant Mepani (1/52) and Pushpak Kerai (1/19).
In reply, Kanbis were home and dry, 270 with five wickets and 39 balls in hand. Rakep shared a third wicket partnership of 176 with Nelson “Mandela” Odhiambo (91 off 100 balls with five boundaries and a six), the best stand for the side. The partnership pushed scores from 42 to 218 and was broken when Rakep was caught at long last on boundary by Sidharth off the bowling of Martin Okoth (1/64).
Ramesh Mepani with 8 not out, Vinod Rabadia (13 not out) and Dhiren Gondaria (31) were the other Kanbis’ batsmen who posted meaningful runs on the scoreboard.
Oluoch also did well with the ball, taking two wickets for 51. Amish Amin (2/61) was the other wicket taker.
