A 22 year old boy in Kayole area is reaping out of creativity after he fitted a ‘mayai boil’ trolley with video displays screen and sound system.
Jobs Etale who sells boiled eggs and smokies sausage in Nyama Villa says he opted for the customise trolley to show uniqueness in the business and attract potential buyers with inspiration of matatu graffiti.
He added that to thrive in the business that is already existing he had to think of a unique way to approach the market that was already flooded. After months of contemplation he settled on mounting video display screen and speakers on his trolley.
” I chose to mount video on my trolley so that it can be unique, in business you have to be creative and look for unique approach to win customer.”
He added that sales are at peak in late evening when the glitters and video display are visible from relatively far distance,accompanied by speakers playing contemporary secular genre appealing to youths.
“The sales are high in the evening when the display is visible, the flickers are also attractive so anyone who see a crowd around me come to catch a glimpse only to find that I’m selling Mayai.”
According to Etale on average he makes a profit of Ksh 700 a day, double the profit he was making before the customised trolley.
“I was making Ksh 300 a day before I modified the trolley, but right now I am making Ksh 700,a day. I attract young children and youths,the selection of music and the video keeps my potential customers around me.”
He also divulged to Ghetto Radio that the investment has so far cost Ksh 20,000 but so happy that he has benefited from the venture.
