The Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (Kemsa) has no title deeds to prove ownership of parcels of land worth Sh183 million spread across the country, Parliament has been told.
Kemsa CEO Jonah Manjari told the Public Investments Committee (PIC) that they have no documents for land and prime propertyin Mombasa, Eldoret, Kisumu, Nakuru, Kakamega, Nyeri and Garissa.
According to Kemsa, the property in Eldoret, Kisumu and Nakuru is valued at Sh25 million each, Garissa land (Sh6.5 million), Kakamega (Sh3 million), Mombasa (Sh76 million) and Nyeri (Sh15 million).
Dr Manjari appeared before PIC to respond to Auditor-General Edward Ouko’s queries on the declared value of Kemsa’s property of Sh3,525,246,933 which excludes parcels of land in Meru municipality measuring 0.3 hectares. “No explanation has been provided for failure to obtain the title deeds for these parcels of land and to bring into account the parcel in Meru.
“In the circumstances, it has not been possible to confirm the validity and accuracy of the property, plant and equipment balance of Sh3,525,246,933 included in the statement of financial position as at June 30, 2017,” Mr Ouko said.
The process of acquiring ownership documents has been going on , Dr Manjari told the committee chaired by Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir.
He aid that Kemsa had hired advocates to follow up on the title deeds for its property spread across the country.
