Kenya collects two medals in Sanlam Cape Town Marathon

Kenya’s Albert Korir finished second in the 2018 edition of Cape Town marathon held Sunday in South Africa.

Korir settled for the second position in a time of 2 hrs 09 minutes and 02 seconds, 31 seconds behind winner Stephen Mokoka of South Africa.

Philemon Kacherian, Kipsang Kipkemoi and Nicholas Rotich finished third, fourth and fifth respectively.

Namibia’s Helaloa Johannes won the women’s title, breaking Isabela Ochichi’s record of 2 hours 30 minutes and 20 seconds to cross the line in 2 hours 29 minutes and 28 seconds while Tanzania’s Failuna Mantanga finished second.

Over 22000 participants from all over the world took part in the event.

Meanwhile, Kenya’s Emmanuel Saina set a new South American all-comers record of 2:05:21 at the 34th edition of the Buenos Aires International Marathon.

26 Year Old Emmanuel Saina dominated the race from the start, passing five kilometres in 14:48, alongside his compatriot Barnabas Kiptum.

Saina, making his debut over the distance, won in 2:05:21, breaking the course record of 2:09:46.

Kiptum was second in 2:09:19, a personal best time, with Peru’s Cristhian Pacheco third in 2:11:19.

Vivian Kiplagat made it a Kenyan double in the women’s race in 2:29:04 ahead of teammate Leah Jerotich and Ethiopia’s Amelework Bosho who clocked 2:32:58, and 2:34:56 respectively. Ecuador’s Rosa Chacha was fifth.
