Nyeri — Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged county assemblies in the Mt Keya region to develop uniform laws to regulate use of illegal brews.
Speaking during a meeting with members of county assemblies from the five counties at his Iruri home Friday, Gachagua said that for the fight to won counties must enact tough laws that make it difficult for distribution and sale of alcohol in their respective counties.
“Today am seeking your support in this fight it imperative that we come up with uniform laws to curb this consumption of alcohol with tough penalties to deter those out there killing our youths ” said Gachagua.
Gachagua who was accompanied by leader of majority Kimani Ichung’wah said that as it easy to get a license to sell illicit brews, a move he indicated as counterproductive.
“We want you people who know where the shoe pinches help us. Infact, you are our people on the ground and can help in all aspects including ways of monitoring how law enforcers are working. You are part of us,” Gachagua stated.
Ichung’wah echoed the DPs sentiments saying the formulation of key laws to fight the vice will aid in its control.
The meeting by Gachagua comes barely a week after he met with security officers from the region to discuss ways of containing the vice.
