Nairobi — Incumbent Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) President Richard Ngatia is banking on endorsements by top officials in President William Ruto’s power circle to retain the seat in forthcoming polls.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi are among officials Ngatia and his team have met ahead of polls slated for June.
Ngatia is seeking re-election with Abdulwalli Shariff as his running mate in a contest that he will be facing the Chamber’s Vice President Dr Eric Tutto who pulled out of Ngatia’s ticket in a last minute maneuver.
In separate courtesy calls to the two leaders, Ngatia and Shariff were accompanied by the Chamber’s regional leaders including and John Shimaka (incoming National Director for Western Region).
Others who joined them are Sylvanus Abungu (Chairman of Busia Chapter), Dr. Billy Nyonze, HSC, Chairman of Vihiga Chapter), Charles Omutany (Vice Chairman of Kakamega Chapter), Martin Waliaula, (Chairman of Trans Nzoia Chapter) and Peter Juma ( Director of Kakamega Chapter).
Ngatia said endorsements by Mudavadi and the House Speaker would give his team the momentum it need in the tightly contested elections.
“As a group, we are honored to have received this endorsement and appreciate the Prime Cabinet Secretary’s recognition of our efforts. We will continue to work diligently to support our region and promote its growth and development,” said Ngatia.
